UPDATE: McAllen ISD police department has learned that the male juvenile, who lives out of state, admitted to making the post as a joke. He has no ties to McAllen ISD. He admitted to randomly picking those schools through a Google search. The suspect is currently in police custody. No credible threat.
We ensure our McAllen ISD community that we take these sorts of threats and social media posts seriously. Charges will be pressed on any sort of threats. Local, state and federal agencies take these posts seriously and fully investigate.

ANNOUNCEMENT: McAllen ISD is aware of a message on social media that makes a threat toward McAllen High & Travis Middle School. Although McAllen ISD police consider this message to be non-credible, all threats are taken seriously. We will take all steps necessary to ensure the safety of students & staff at all our schools. Our police are working with other law enforcement agencies to ensure everyone’s safety. In addition, officers are stationed each day at every campus. We will continue to post updates as needed. Please take a moment to speak with your child about the importance of reporting something suspicious to a responsible adult. Parents can also check their child’s backpack for anything inappropriate. Thank you for your patience & support.
